Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor has praised Neil Lennon for a possible tactical ‘masterstroke’, after taking Scott Brown out of the side in the last two fixtures.

As quoted by the Glasgow Times, McGregor was full of praise for his captain for the way he plays, how he continues to get written off and has backed the 35-year old to bounce back once more this season.

“You write him off at your peril,” he said. “He has that mentality. You don’t play at this club for 13 years, have such a good career and be a winner so many times if you don’t have that mentality. It’s not possible.

“The amount of times he’s come back to prove people wrong speaks for itself. Every time someone does say something about him, he comes back and plays even better. It could be a masterstroke.

“The thing about Broony is that he is 35. He might still play like he’s 26 as he’s full of energy. But you do have to remember his age as well. It’s a big ask to play two or three games a week at real high intensity, the way we like to play, high tempo, high pressing.

“He is 35 so it is a big ask. So you might have to manage him a little bit differently to previous seasons. But by no means is he starting to slow down. It’s just a case of the manager picking and choosing the right times to unleash him.”

In the past, McGregor is right, the Celtic captain has been written off an unbelievable amount of times before resurrecting and playing a huge role in the side.

To be quite honest, I really don’t think I would be surprised if he was to come out and do it once again.

He hasn’t been at his best this season but who has?

Although, Brown is getting to the age where he can’t play every game. So by all means, he can bounce back but he simply cannot be allowed to play every single game and we now know that we have a player in Ismaila Soro who can come in and do a great job in that position.

It’s about managing a player like Brown, which we haven’t done well at all this season. I would still expect him to have an impact from here but just with much less game time.
