NEIL LENNON weighed into the aftermath of the Spurs game on Tuesday night – the London side were hammered 7-2 by Bayern on their own patch.

This led many Scottish football fans to pipe up on social media about an English team worth millions succumbing to such a big defeat.

After all, English pundits have been relentless when Celtic have lost by similar score-lines in the past and we are not even working at a tenth of Tottenham’s budget.

The Celtic manager believed it shows that on any given night if you’re not at it and the other side have quality and are clinical results like that can happen. Neil has played on both sides of the border and told of the English fans and pundits looking down at the Scottish game – even though they don’t watch it on a weekly basis. While Lenny revealed some pundits up here let themselves down by jumping on the bandwagon.

“Does a result like that surprise you? Of course. But it can happen.” Neil Lennon told RecordSport.

“When you are coming up against that type of quality and they get their dander up, sometimes mentally it can deflate you and it looked like that happened to Spurs.

“They were also punished by ruthless finishing. It just shows you that it can happen to the best of teams.

“It’s more from England that they look down on the Scottish game.

“But we have produced and are producing good teams and good individuals who have gone on to do great things in the Premier League.

“You don’t take a view from England as they don’t see the game week-in and week-out but sometimes people up here jump on the bandwagon and really let themselves down.

“It can happen. Obviously, I don’t want that to happen to us (against Cluj) and I’d like to think it could be a reversal and we could score goals and make it difficult for any opposition at Celtic Park.”

Celtic have had some memorable results over the years but we’ve also had howlers. The snobbery from English fans and the crash bang down to earth Spurs got this week will be unlikely be enough for them to show any humility.
