What a night for Ex-Celtic star Liam Henderson as Hellas Verona performed a stunning turnaround to gain promotion to Serie A.

It’s been 18-months since Celtic and Liam Henderson parted ways when Brendan Rodgers decided the midfielder was surplus to requirements at Celtic Park.

Instead of heading down south to a lower league English side, the midfielder took a risk and went over to Italy to begin a new adventure with Bari. After a good start with Bari their promotion race fell apart and then the club financially destructed leaving Liam without a club last summer.

He would join Hellas Verona in pre-season after training with Neil Lennon’s Hibs side last July to keep up his fitness. Liam has made 29 appearances for the Verona this season; scoring three and assisting five.

Verona made it to the Serie B playoffs where they took part in the final against Cittadella which is played over two legs. The first leg seen Verona trail Cittadella by two goals – they needed a big performance on Sunday night and that’s exactly what they got with a 3-0 win to secure promotion.

Liam Henderson is now a Serie A player and no less than the 23-year-old deserves for his efforts and the risk he took heading over to Italy.

The midfielder will become only the FOURTH Scottish player to ply their trade in Serie A.

The men before him were Joe Jordan, Denis Law and Graeme Souness.
