Celtic winger Liel Abada earned glowing praise from Ange Postecoglou after Celtic’s 5-1 victory against St Mirren in Paisley.

The Hoops weren’t themselves in the first half, and the boss decided to introduce Abada at the interval as he went on to have a huge impact on the game.

He put in a top performance which helped his side turn the game around after going down 1-0 to an early penalty in the opening ten minutes of the match.

Having already lost against St Mirren away from home early on in the season, it was vitally important that the fixture didn’t continue to be a sticking point as until the most recent win, Postecoglou hadn’t won in Paisley.

Abada got on the scoresheet himself as Celtic ran riot and took full advantage of Charles Dunne’s sending off as he also assisted Matt O’Riley for his first Premiership goal of the season.

The 21-year-old is closing in on 100 appearances for the club and has surprisingly made the most amount of appearances under Postecoglou even though the majority of them have been from the bench this season.

His numbers are again fantastic as he has scored 12 goals this season and also contributed seven assists but once again Postecoglou won’t entertain any talk of players getting upset for not starting matches.

He hit back when asked about the possibility of Abada taking the huff over his selection process.

As quoted by the [Daily Record] he said, “What do you reckon would happen to players who throw their toys out of the pram, mate?”

These types of questions have been getting posed to the manager for a number of weeks now, but you just need to look at the examples of Josip Juranovic and Giorgos Giakoumakis to give you an indication of his stance.

“Liel’s a really ambitious guy who wants to be at a big football club. He wants to win things and be the best he can be. That’s exactly where he is at. All our players, particularly the younger ones who want to go on to further opportunities, maybe to a stronger league, do you think they are going to go to a club where they are guaranteed game time? No, so it’s no different here. We are a big club. Nothing is guaranteed. You’ve got to earn everything and these boys do that.

“He’s a pretty strong-willed young man. It wasn’t easy for him to come across here at his age. He’s come into a big club where there are expectations. When you are a winger at this football club people don’t give you allowances for your age or whatever kind of player you are. They want to see goals and assists and he’s been consistent in doing that. I know he’s not had a lot of starts but he’s still played a lot of football.

“He and Matty O’Riley are probably the only two who have played every game for us this year. People focus on who starts and they think players aren’t getting game time. But from our perspective he was a really strong contributor last year and this year and he will continue to be.”
