Airdrie boss Ian Murray is hoping his side will be in with a chance of signing Celtic youngster Kerr McInroy come the end of the season.
On the final day of the Scottish lower league loan window, Airdrie moved to sign the Hoops midfielder on a temporary deal until January.
In an interview last week, McInroy admitted he had the possible option of another year when his contract is set to come to an end in the summer. However, his comments suggested that he believed his time at the club would be coming to an end.
As quoted by the Daily Record, Murray was full of praise for the 21-year old after his debut against Clyde last weekend as he opened up on the details behind making the deal happen and is hoping his side will be in the mix to sign McInroy permanently.
“I’m maybe a wee bit surprised that we’ve managed to get hold of Kerr; the longer the window goes on, sometimes things come up, and I’ve always said if we’re in a position to add to our squad with a player who is of genuine quality then we will always at least try.
“That was the case here; Kerr popped up in the last 48 hours [of the window], and we know how good he is.
“He’s been at Celtic since a young age, he’s still there at 21 and is training and playing with the first team, so he has definite quality.
“Just like any other player, we will aim to improve him as usual and then send him back to Celtic.
“If that changes at his end, then hopefully we’ll be in the mix to be in a position to try and entice him to us because he’s a really good player.”
After featuring in pre-season under Ange Postecoglou, there is possibly still a chance for the academy prospect to try and show his worth during this loan spell and if he returns to Lennoxtown in January.
However, it would have to be an excellent spell in Scottish League One.
Unfortunately, it looks like his time as a Celtic player might be edging towards the end, which is never nice for a young player. But his time at Airdrie is a good chance for McInroy to impress clubs who might be watching.
Give the boy a chance to make the first team , we loose too many like him.
