Reports in Portugal are claiming Celtic are about to complete a deal for Alfa Semedo.

Diário de Transferências report the Scottish Champions are set to tie up a loan deal with an obligation to buy next summer. The former Benfica man has already played out on loan in the UK with both Reading at Nottingham Forest.

Semedo, 24, would be coming into Celtic to become a midfielder enforcer, allowing Callum McGregor to move further forward on European nights.

Alfa Semedo to Celtic Likelihood.

Semedo’s link to Celtic has come from several quarters over the past week. The Hoops have been actively pursuing a defensive midfielder in the off season with Vinicius Souza also a top target for the role.

The reports from Portugal claiming Celtic are almost there are very interesting. No Scottish journalist who tend to get briefed by the club have mentioned much about the move to this point.

We wouldn’t take this report to the bank at the moment. When sniffing out a transfer story – you have to be vigilant of who is making the noises.

Diário de Transferências don’t have any sort of track record when it comes to Celtic signings, of course, this is specific to them as they believe they’re close to the Semedo camp.

Celtic also used the loan deal with an obligation to buy for Maeda in January – it’s a deal they would be familiar enough with.

We’ll be keeping an eye on this one.
