Long-term Celtic defensive target Ben Davies is reportedly closing in on a loan move to recently relegated side Sheffield United.

According to Sky Sports, the Liverpool defender who was once again linked with a move to the Hoops this summer is set to complete a season-long loan to the English Championship side.

Last January, Davies was involved in a transfer sage with Celtic. At one stage, he looked all set to join the Hoops with most details agreed. However, at the last minute, English Premier League giants Liverpool stepped in.

Since making that move, the 26-year old is still yet to play a minute for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

So, this summer, he has been linked with a move away, and in recent weeks, both Sheffield United and Celtic were mentioned as possible loan destinations.

The former Preston North End man will now complete his move to the Blades early next week, with reports saying that there is no option to buy included in the deal that will see Sheffield pay an undisclosed loan fee.
