It was last summer when Daniel Arzani was the youngest player named at the World Cup in Russia 2018. The Socceroo star then made a money-spinning move to Manchester City shortly after the tournament with Celtic already lined up to take him on a two-year loan.

The first season of his loan was a disaster. Brendan Rodgers waited to introduce the Australian to the side and when he finally did in a cold dark night in Dundee, the player was only on 12 minutes when he was stretchered off when a freak accident saw Arzani tear his ACL.

It has been a long road to recovery but the player is in a much better place now and closing in on what could be a very big season for the youngster.

Speaking back in June, the attacking midfielder was disappointed when he said he’d likely miss out on the first leg against Sarajevo but could make the second game at Celtic Park.

Arzani told the official Celtic twitter “I’m disappointed that I won’t be there for the first leg but I hope to be there for the next one.”

Watch this space. Neil Lennon is very cautious over injured stars returning and players who have not played competitive football for a while. A sub appearance might happen if Arzani can prove his fitness but it’s more likely the Irishman will let the player build himself back up a little more before letting him loose.

Could the next qualifier be a target for the Australian?
