Celtic’s 5-star victory over Ross County may have cemented their position at the top of the Premiership, putting them 14 points ahead of Rangers before they play St Johnston on Sunday, but midfielder Luke McCowan insists there’s no talk of league tables or title races in the dressing room.
Instead, the team’s focus is split between delivering performances on the pitch and unwinding off it—with Netflix’s basketball documentary Starting 5 taking centre stage.
Speaking after his starring role against Ross County, where he scored once and provided three assists, McCowan dismissed the notion that the squad is preoccupied with their growing lead over Aberdeen and Rangers.
“No, we’re not talking about that. We talk about what we’re watching on Netflix. We’re watching Starting 5 so, no, the boys don’t look at tables or think about it.” [RecordSport]
That process was on full display against Ross County, with goals from Liam Scales, Paulo Bernardo, Callum McGregor, Adam Idah, and McCowan.
Next up for Celtic is a crucial midweek clash at Pittodrie, where they can extend their lead at the top of the table. With the team firing on all cylinders, the focus remains on maintaining momentum, one game at a time.
While the league table might not be a talking point in the dressing room, the players’ calm confidence suggests they are well-prepared for the challenges ahead.
There’s still a long way to go in the season, so getting excited about gaps would be premature for the players.
