Many CELTIC FANS have been up in arms today after Mikael Lustig took part in an interview for the Swedish press which confirmed he and the club had reached a stalemate and he was likely moving on.
However, the caveat from Lustig seemed to be he was still open to doing a deal if the club come back to the table.
Mikael responded to a question if that was it for him at Celtic by saying: “You should never say never. I love that club and never thought I would feel such a love for a club. So I will never close that door.” he told Sports Bladet.
He also confirmed there was no problem with the management or anyone else at the club which would stop him from signing a new deal. It’s all down to the board and from Lustig’s words, it appears that there could be a lack of respect or at least Lustig is perceiving this to be the case.
Jackie McNamara famously left Celtic for Wolves one summer window when after the player’s testimonial his new deal wasn’t forthcoming and Peter Lawwell seemed to take the defender for granted after his many years of service. By the time Peter had got a hold of Jackie he was already driving down to England to sign for Glenn Hoddle’s Wolves at the time.

Having spent eight seasons at the club, winning 16 trophies including two doubles and three trebles, the player deserves the utmost respect.
The Swede has deals on the table elsewhere and the fact he’s not signed one yet shows how much he’d still like to be involved at Celtic. There’s no doubt we need a fresh young right back to come in but there’s no doubt Mikael can still do a job domestically for the club.
