DAIZEN MAEDA is still to hit the back of the net this season, despite being handed many chances in front of goal.

The winger has still been called up to his national side, despite his poor form. Japan are in action later today, when they face the US side, without Cameron Carter-Vickers, who pulled out of the squad injured.

Supporters have been losing their patience with the January signing, with some elements of his game just not up to scratch. Often, his second touch is a tackle, and his passing can be suspect. Although, you can’t take away what he offers the team. He’s constantly closing down and pressing the opponents, which is the way Ange wants his teams to play.

As quoted by the Daily Record, Maeda has admitted his form in front of goal hasn’t been the best but is looking for an improvement in the near future.

“I haven’t scored a goal yet for Celtic in the league this season, but hopefully, I can change that soon. Celtic are a very easy team to play for.

“I think I work hard for the team and I like to defend from the front too. I like to be able to say I have helped my teammates at the back as well. I try my best for Celtic to be able to help at both ends of the pitch.”

If he wants to make the 26-man squad for the World Cup, he’ll need to find some form quickly.
