DAIZEN MAEDA has been named on the bench for Japan as they get set to kick off against China in their World Cup qualifier at 10 am UK Time.

The striker has only played two games for Celtic since signing before making his way back to Japan to represent his country.

Maeda scored four minutes into his Celtic debut and was played out wide against Alloa at the weekend.

There was a slight hope Daizen wouldn’t be called up to the squad after not making an appearance for his country during the previous international break. Now he’s there and missing the Glasgow Derby, it would be frustrating to see him just sit on the bench for the duration. Some fans might prefer that so he doesn’t risk injury but if you’re going to take a player away from his club during a very important period, please give him game time.

Celtic beat Hearts 2-1 in Daizen’s absence on Wednesday night. He’ll miss the Dundee Utd game at the weekend and The Rangers game next Wednesday before returning to the squad.

Giakoumakis scored the winning goal for Celtic, making the most of his opportunity with Kyogo and Daizen unavailable.
