Celtic’s Europa League opponents, Riga FC are currently facing a management dilemma.

The Latvian side are without manager Oleg Kononov, who returned to his homeland of Russia last week for undisclosed family reasons and are unsure as and when he might return.

As reported by the Daily Record, the former Spartak Moscow manager left for Russia just before their last Europa League tie against San Marino side, Tre Fiori.

In the last match they were managed by assistant manager Mihals Konevs and it could be the same come Thursday, when Celtic travel to face them.

The man who looks to be taking on the role has past experience, being manager of Riga FC twice in the past and returned to the assistant manager roles just last year.

Now it looks as though he has been thrown in at the deep end, due to no fault of his own. You do wonder how much of an impact this may have on the Riga squad and if it could work in favour for the hoops.
