Robbie Neilson has confirmed Beni Baningime is a major doubt for Hearts this evening at Celtic Park after going off injured against St Johnstone at the weekend.

The midfielder has been massive for the Jambos this season and has made 16 appearances since coming in on-loan from Everton.

While the Hearts boss confirmed the player was up and walking around, a precautionary scan on Wednesday has taken place and it’s unlikely he will have any part of the Celtic game.

“Beni is getting scanned today [Wednesday] so it doesn’t look like he’s going to be available for Thursday or the weekend. He’s still walking about but we thought we’d get it scanned as a precaution because he wouldn’t be ready for the game on Thursday.” Neilson told Clyde One.

“It’s not going to be a long-term one, I don’t think.”

It’s Hearts second trip to Celtic Park this season. The Edinburgh side were knocked out of the League Cup by Ange Postecoglou and his team earlier this year.

The Jambos own an opening day victory over the Hoops, Ange’s first SPFL game ending in defeat with a late winner from John Souttar.

Celtic were at the earlier stage of the rebuild at that point and had Dane Murray playing in defence, a talented young defender, but someone who was nowhere near ready to play serious game time.

It will be interesting to see how the two teams go at it this evening.
