KARAMOKO DEMBELE has been discussed in Celtic circles all year with all Celtic media outlets [including CeltsAreHere] assuming the player’s Hoops contract is coming to an end.

However, it’s now emerged Celtic might just have the player for another year.

At the time Karamoko signed his first professional deal, Celtic wrote the following on their website.

‘CELTIC are delighted to announce that Karamoko Dembele has signed his first full-time professional contract with the club, in a deal that sees him remain at Paradise until at least 2021.’

We’ve highlighted the ‘at least’ portion because, after Karamoko’s cameo at Pittodrie, the Daily Record ran a story on the Celtic youngster claiming he has still got a year left on his Celtic deal.

The plot thickens when you go over to TransferMarkt who have Karamoko’s deal expiring in 2022.

I and many assumed Celtic’s comment of ‘at least’ 2021 meant Dembele was locked in until then and should he sign an extension later down the line, he’d be here longer.

Karamoko’s Celtic affiliation looks like it will go into next season. It doesn’t mean he will be here next term, if he has one year to go, Celtic could cash in on the winger.

If they don’t, he should be given a chance to prosper next term.

Would you like to see Karamoko get a shot?

We reported earlier this year the youngster was offered a lower-tier loan deal to get game time and he knocked back the offer.

  1. We’ve all had teasers of Dembele’s ability, but he’s either good enough now to get game time at that age, or he’s not. A contract extension after a cameo appearance in a meaningless game should mean as much to him as it means to us, i.e. F all unless he begins to play regularly. If he’s good enough, play him. Goodness knows we could use an injection of talent right now.
