LEIGH GRIFFITHS has confirmed the new Celtic manager, Ange Postecoglou personally called the striker on Tuesday to discuss his future.

Leigh is out of contract and his extension clause has now expired. Despite that, Leigh has kept on training and has been waiting for Celtic to let him know if he has a future.

Speaking to Sky Sports this afternoon, Leigh explained Ange had phoned him up this week for discussions and the Australian wants to see the player in training next week.

It means Leigh will turn up at Lennoxtown and might even have to prove himself to the new boss.

Postecoglou would have seen the players highlight reel but he will have also been briefed by the people already at Celtic and how the striker’s fitness has let him down so often.

Griff has been posting videos of himself in personal training for the past few weeks to avoid a repeat of last pre-season, if he can prove his worth to Ange, he might just get a new deal.

As quoted by SunSport, Griffiths said:

“I do. I spoke to the manager on Tuesday morning and things seemed positive.

“We’ll have another chat at the beginning of next week when he’s out of isolation and we’ll take it from there.

“It was a massive thing for him just to give me a phone. He didn’t have to but he took time out his day and gave me his ideas and his plans moving forward.

“So it was a positive chat, we just need to wait until he’s out of isolation, we’ll have a chat face-to-face and we’ll see where we’re at.

“Every level I’ve played at, I’ve scored. There’s still a lot to come from me, I’m only 30-years-old and I’ve still got a lot of years left.”

  1. C’mon Griffs, prove them all wrong. You don’t become a bad player in a short time. Get your shooting boots on and show them what you are worth. HH
