Celtic’s route to the Champions League was given somewhat of a boost tonight after seeded side APOEL were knocked out by minnows Suduva in the first qualifying round.
APOEL were one of the strongest teams in the qualifying rounds who Celtic could have got if both teams made the playoff round of the Champions League.
Their defeat has opened the field and could prove massive as Celtic look to qualify for the third time in a row.
HUGE upset in CL qualifying.
Suduva (coeff 2.0) lost to APOEL Nicosia (coeff 27.0) 1-0, but advanced 3-2 on agg.
APOEL were a potential 4th round opponent for Celtic. Could make a difference down the road.
