Due to circumstances out with the manager’s control he had to start with Cristian Gamboa at right back against Rosenborg on Wednesday night.
The Irishman has been reluctant to play the former West Brom man, even when Celtic have been struggling for fit right backs.
Rodgers had no choice but to throw Gamboa into the mix and if he was out there to answer the question ‘Can you do a job for Celtic?’, the answer came back yes!
However, here comes crunch time.
Lustig has been back a full week now and has been training hard to get up to speed with the rest of the players.
It would be a massive vote of confidence to Gamboa if the Irishman went with him in Norway next week rather than throw Lustig into the mix.
By the same token, if the gaffer was to field Lustig instead of the Costa Rica international then it could be lights out for Gamboa’s Celtic career.
Cristian has just one-year left on his current deal and would be able to sign a pre-contact with any club in January.
Will Rodgers give him a run or will he look to sell the defender before the deadline.
For me CG is more an attacker than a defender. Depends what is required.
