Shaun Maloney has revealed he has taken on a bigger coaching role with Celtic’s attacking players this season.
Speaking to TCW, Maloney confirmed he is now doing more individual work with Celtic’s attacking players after matches.
He said: “I have picked up the individual work with the attacking players after games.
“Last season it was Gavin Strachan who did that. I can’t take any credit for that! We also had Greg Wallace, who went to Saudi with Brendan Rodgers recently, and those two were really good with the individual stuff. I was doing things away from the pitch more, so I will pick more of that up this season.
“Stephen McManus and Mark Fotheringham do their stuff with different positions, but it was Gav and Greg who did the attacking work.”
It gives a clearer picture of how Celtic’s coaching team is working following a number of changes behind the scenes this summer.
That has opened the door for Maloney to become more involved directly on the training pitch with Celtic’s forward players.
His new role will see him work closely with the club’s attacking options, with individual development now forming a bigger part of his day-to-day responsibilities.
McManus and Fotheringham will continue to focus on other areas of the squad, while Maloney takes on more of the work previously handled by Strachan and Wallace.
It is a notable change for Maloney, who admitted he had previously been doing more work away from the pitch.
With Celtic adding new attacking players this summer, including Kasper Høgh and Camilo Duran, Maloney’s increased involvement could become an important part of helping the new-look frontline settle and develop over the course of the season.

what you are really pointing out is that there are no plans to replace the specialist coaching staff ( Strachan and Wallace) with additional specialist coaching staff. The board have told MONj ust to get the former pathway manager ( Maloney) and the others to take those roles on, despite not being specialists in those areas of coaching work. Worth bearing in mind thst it was Desmond who brought Maloney back to Celtic not Rodgers. I still believe their original plan was not to renew Rodgers contract and get Maloney in as cheap managerial option for this season but when Brendan walked the board knew that the fans would not stand for him being made boss there and then. I still believe that this is exactly what will happen when MON calls it a day at the end of this season. Despite Maloney’s track record of failure at managerial level.
