Celtic were in the market for a right back this summer and had a few options on the table before they concluded a deal for Josip Juranovic.

The Croatian was high on Celtic’s list, but CeltsAreHere understand the Hoops weren’t keen on shelling out a transfer fee to bring in a right back. The club were looking at loan options and one player spoken about was Yan Couto.

The 19-year-old Brazilian is in the Manchester City youth setup and was in search of first team football.

Former Celtic defender Gary Caldwell is now the loan manager at Manchester City and revealed Couto was keen on a move to Celtic but the deciding factor in not coming to Glasgow was the language barrier. Choosing to head to Portugal with Braga even though he was keen on a move to Celtic because of the fans.

Speaking to Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, Caldwell revealed the situation between Celtic and Couto, “He was going to there on loan. We actually spoke about it when I was at his house.

“He said the stadium the supporters were incredible.

“He felt like the language barrier would have been a big thing and he settled quickly in Portugal.

“So he’s probably made the right decision for his career development but he did mention when he was out of the stadium, the supporters, he said it was incredible.

“And he was drawn by that but he decided to go to Braga.”

Celtic then went on to sign Josip Juranovic on a five-year deal for an undisclosed fee. The rumours of signing the Croatian for around the £2m mark from Legia Warsaw was a bargain seeing as the defender had played his part in last summer’s Euros.

Josip hasn’t properly got going for Celtic yet. The defender has played out of position and he suffered an injury setback before the last international break.

The right back should be good to go in the next week or so.
