Last season was an utter shambles for Celtic and one of the biggest disappointments from a transfer perspective was the form of Shane Duffy during his season long loan.

The defender never looked comfortable in a Celtic back line, we wanted a no nonsense defender and we got more nonsense than we ever have before.

There was extenuating circumstances for the Irishman’s huge drop off in form which we’ve covered in the site many times.

Shane is no longer a Celtic player and on his first full game back from his Parkhead nightmare, the Irish international has only gone and won the man of the match!

After the game Shane Duffy role RTE: “It’s always tough when you go through a tough spell, most footballers do at some part of their career. I’ve went through it, and I’ve got a great manager who trusts me. I’ve got no complaints about not playing in the team.

“So I’ve total belief and thanks to the manager for giving me a game, first and foremost. I enjoyed it again.

“I sort of forgot what it felt like to play football. Hopefully that’s the bad part over. Another rest and I’ll be ready to be back next season, kick on and show everyone how good I am again.”

Celtic fans will be a bit miffed by the upturn in Shane’s game but I think we’ll see more of that throughout next season. Players excelling away from the club. In the end, everything became toxic and nobody was playing to their best ability.

We do wish Shane all the best for the future. Signings sometimes just don’t work out. It’s how you bounce back from adversity and that’s what both Shane and the club should be aiming to do next term.
