MICHAEL O’NEILL was forced to come out and address rumours linking James McClean with a move to Celtic.

The Stoke City manager was clear there was nothing at their end to suggest the player is going to move on this transfer window and the rumlour has been created by someone, for whatever reason.

Social media was awash with McClean potentially signing for Celtic but there’s never been anything concrete to suggest it was the case – hence why we refused to report on the rumours swirling around on Sunday evening.

McClean is a massive Celtic fan and would jump at the chance to come to Celtic in our opinion but he wouldn’t exactly fit in with Neil Lennon’s squad at present.

Talking about the transfer rumour, O’Neill did suggest if a bid did come in for the Irishman, they would have to consider it.

“I think that’s probably just a rumour that’s been created by someone – and it certainly hasn’t come from our end.” O’Neill told SunSport.

“The nature of the transfer window is such that you have to be flexible and if any situation arises with any player you have to give it consideration, particularly where we are at this minute in time.

“We have to obviously deal with the rules of Financial Fair Play and deal with too a squad which is bloated.

“James is no different from any other player in the squad and if the situation arose we’d have to consider it but at this minute in time, I think that would be highly unlikely.”

Celtic are on the look out for more of a left wing back than a attacking left mid, we have Moi Elyounoussi already being used sparingly at the moment.
