MANCHESTER CITY haven confirmed they will be honouring their former manager and Celtic Legend Billy McNeill at their next home game on May 6.

There was some noises of discontent online with Manchester City not marking the death of McNeill’s passing other than a website article.

However, after being asked for comment if the EPL champions would be doing anything to honour their former manager a club spokesperson told Record Sport : “Manchester City was saddened to hear that former manager Billy McNeill had passed away earlier this week.

“The club’s condolences were shared through the Manchester City website, and a wreath was laid in the club’s memorial garden by club ambassador and former player, Mike Summerbee.

“Black armbands will be worn by Manchester City players at the club’s next home fixture on Monday 6th May.

“The thoughts of everybody at Manchester City are with Billy’s family at this difficult time.”

Billy will be laid to rest next Friday with his funeral cort̬ge passing by Celtic Park in the day Рhis final journey to Paradise.

The first team Celtic stars will also be laying a wreath outside the ground before kick off on Saturday before a 67 second applause inside the stadium.

The footballing world have been mourning one of their greatest sons this week in a big way and it’s nice to see Pep Guardiola and his team of superstars showing respect to a man who meant so much to a lot of people.

Aston Villa will wear black armbands this Sunday against Leeds to mark Cesar’s passing – the Lisbon Lion also managed the Birmingham side.

Billy McNeill is a Celtic Legend but he garnered the respect of many people outside the club. It is right he gets the biggest send off possible!
