MANCHESTER UNITED legend Paul Scholes has saluted Celtic for their victory over Lazio on Thursday night, heaping praise on the Celtic support as he recalled the time his own side fell at Celtic Park.

Scholes, now retired, was speaking to BT Sports about the game and how Celtic just find a way at Celtic Park under the lights.

It doesn’t matter who you are, if the crowd are up for it and the players match that energy on the park then a result is possible.

In recent years, that kind of grit has been missing in Europe and although Celtic didn’t play at their best they showed a very different side to their game and put in an energy zapping performance to get all three points against the Serie A side.

Speaking to BT and as cited by HITC – Scholes sang our praises.

“It’s one of those places, Celtic, where you go, you play well, you control the game, as Lazio did tonight, and as we did for large parts of our game years ago, but they always find a way, they always find a way to win.

“We saw the crowd was sensational. We saw how crazy they were going there towards the end. It just shows that the Europa League is important to some clubs at least, which is good.”

It was perhaps the best Europa League night on record at Celtic Park in terms of the energy and atmosphere inside the stadium.
