Fabrizio Romano has revealed in a video podcast this week that Manchester Utd had Josip Juranovic lined up as Wan-Bissaka’s replacement but the deal fell through when they decided to stick with him after a decent run of form in January.

Romano believes the deal was pretty much in place from December, which would explain Celtic going out and signing a right back before the window even opened.

Juranovic was tailed by a few high profile clubs and in the end signed for Union Berlin who are having a top season in the Bundesliga.

The transfer did drag on a bit and if Manchester Utd had made their interest known, it’s likely JJ and Celtic were gearing up for the move happening.

After they decide against the move, Celtic and Juranovic have surveyed the interested parties. In a recent interview JJ spoke about turning down bigger clubs in bigger leagues to join Union Berlin, but no mention of the club.

The defender has made it two assists in two for his new side since joining last month. Celtic have moved on from the Croatian without skipping a beat. Alistair Johnston has come in and performed well in the role.
