CELTIC fans have rightly taken umbrage with one of Celtic Football Club’s latest official posts.
It’s an ‘On this day’ feature where it explains Celtic won their first ever major trophy on this day back in 1892 – a positive story in itself.
However, the graphic that accompanies it has Celtic fans angry, irritated and scratching their heads.
A club open to all, to feed the poor of Glasgow, back when we won our first trophy and beyond. The graphic today advertises the UK’s number one debt recovery specialists in what has to be called a tone-deaf move.
@CelticFCSLO surely we shouldn't be associating ourselves with debt collectors considering our founding values and continuous support for those growing up in deprivation?
Another example of how the @CelticFC board are out of touch with its fan base.— Kieren Laverty (@KierenLaverty) April 9, 2021
"Community Partner, bpo collections, UK's #1 debt recovery specialist"@dom_mckay1, this better be near the top of your list on day 1. Clear out your entire Marketing team, replace them with pro's (preferably folk who don't post Covid-denial on their personal Twitter accounts). https://t.co/aYSGFXuzQT

Community partner a debt recovery company, own goal specialists at it again https://t.co/OX1VTTnKdK

As pointed out by a lot of folk, having the UK #1 Debt Collector as your community partner is just another slap in the face.
This board are so at odds with the foundations of the club. Awful. https://t.co/dIeOWtROoF

Debt companies pile misery on the poor, add stress and pressure on people already at breaking point. While these exist, we do not as a club need to be advertising their existence in any way shape or form.
Celtic are a club of compassion, a club open to all and a club that was born in the community with fundamental charitable roots. This is not acceptable and any ties with this company should be quickly severed.
Celtic Supporter Liasion Officer, John Paul Taylor did lend some context but it’s not good enough from the club who should be vetting anyone they advertise.
JP said on social media:” Tbh, I think this is ad space which is sold by an independent company”
If this isn’t the last time the debt company is advertised with the club, there will be even more of an uproar.
Then of course there are you guys who can’t type the date properly. Christ.
