Martin O’Neill has confirmed that Marcelo Saracchi has suffered another hamstring injury, forcing him off early during Celtic’s 4–0 win over Kilmarnock.
The left-back pulled up midway through the first half, cutting short what had been a lively start to the game, and was replaced by Kieran Tierney.
The Uruguayan defender has endured a frustrating run since joining Celtic, struggling to build momentum due to repeated fitness problems. This latest setback adds to O’Neill’s growing injury list, with Alistair Johnston and Callum Osmand also ruled out for long spells following surgery.
Saracchi’s pace and aggression down the left had given Celtic balance in recent weeks, and his absence will once again test the team’s defensive depth. Tierney’s strong return offers some comfort, but losing another senior option remains far from ideal for O’Neill at a busy stage of the season.
Speaking after the match, the Celtic boss didn’t hide his disappointment at the setback, hinting at growing frustration with the team’s injury misfortune. His tone was blunt and weary, reflecting the strain of another key player sidelined.
He said: (TCW), “He’s done his hamstring.
“I don’t know what this game’s about, really.
“Honestly. You know, yeah, he’s going to be out again.”
O’Neill’s reaction summed up the mood around Celtic’s recent injury problems, frustration mixed with disbelief. Saracchi’s recurring fitness issues have made it difficult for him to find consistency, and this latest blow will likely keep him out for several weeks.
Hamstring injuries have been a recurring theme in Celtic’s season, with multiple players sidelined by similar problems. It’s a concern O’Neill and his medical staff will be desperate to address as they manage the workload through the winter period.

The timing couldn’t be worse, with Celtic juggling domestic fixtures and European competition. Tierney’s return offers stability on the left, but O’Neill knows the squad is walking a fine line in terms of depth.
For Saracchi, it’s another tough setback in his effort to make an impact at Parkhead. O’Neill’s words were short but telling, this one hurts, both for the player and for a team already stretched by injuries.
