MARK Hateley has started a one man crusade to try and get Odsonne Edouard suspended for Saturday at Ibrox.
The former Ibrox hero believes the French striker should have seen red during the Dundee Utd tie. He highlights a tackle put in before the second goal by David Turnbull, Eddy fights and wins the ball before Turnbull gets in possession and strikes a sweet shot in off the post.
It past without incident but Hateley is adamant Eddy should have seen red at the time and now he hasn’t should face trial by TV and be suspended for Ibrox.
Speaking to RecordSport, Hateley ranted: “It’s a lunge, it’s an out-of-control tackle, it’s over the top of the ball and there’s contact.
“Willie Collum is standing about 10 feet away looking straight at it.
“It’s a dangerous challenge and it’s a red card offence. So, he should be out of the Old Firm game.
“And he would be a huge miss for them in what is such an important game. He’s got that X-factor that any team would like to have
“You look at Alfredo Morelos’ challenge in the Dundee United game when he used his arm.
“I said straight away in our post-match reaction on Ten10 podcasts that it was a red card and he should have gone.
“He was subsequently offered a two-match ban and the club accepted it.
“This is what should happen with Edouard. I fully expect the same scenario to unfold.
“But it seems that the SFA’s fast track process isn’t fast enough – although Celtic would probably appeal it anyway.”
The game is coming up fast and Steven Gerrard’s team are in a great position in the league. It’s surprising me to see such desperate efforts to get Eddy banned for the game.
The striker missed the first derby of the season due to testing positive for the virus. Tgis time he’s fit and ready to go and despite the efforts of Hateley, will line up for the Quadruple treble champions on Saturday.
