Celtic have confirmed Mark Lawwell, son of Peter Lawwell will take up a head of recruitment role with Celtic this summer, leaving his post at the City group.

Mark has been credited with a number of Celtic deals between Manchester City and the Hoops over the last period of time.

Celtic were initially looking for a head of recruitment back last summer but after the Eddie Howe debacle their plans to bring in Fergal Harkin from City hit the rocks.

Ange has been working with the team already in place at the club and also making sure he had a big say in recruitment.

The Club announced on Monday evening the manager would now have Mark’s input going forward.

The Hoops gaffer confirming he has known Mark Lawwell since his day at Yokohama Marinos who are party of the City group.

Celtic Manager, Ange Postecoglou told the Celtic website: “I was very keen for Mark to join the Club and clearly I am delighted that he has accepted this important role and that we have been able to bring him to Celtic.

“Mark is someone who I worked closely with throughout my four years at Marinos, through which time we developed great trust and an excellent working relationship. He knows the way I like to work, the way my teams play and the particular player profile which this requires.”

The Manager added: “I know he will be a great addition to our team, leading our first-team scouting and recruitment function and delivering on our key objective of identifying and bringing exciting, talented players to the Club.

“We have a great team of people at the Club and since joining Celtic I have been hugely impressed by the staff around me who have all worked so hard to deliver success.

“I have said before that I didn’t want to make changes just for the sake of it, but we always aim to build and develop everything we do and in bringing Mark in I know we have made an appointment which will be hugely beneficial for us moving forward.”

Peter Lawwell is still part of a secondary Celtic board and represents the club at the ECA – the club confirmed to CeltsAreHere the affiliation with Celtic was needed for Peter to continue in the role at the a European body.

Peter left his role as chief executive last summer after failing to secure ten in a row with his hand picked manager, Neil Lennon.

Peter delivered great success to the club but there was always the overriding feeling he would not go that but extra to secure deals and speculate when it came to Europe.

If fans were looking for a clean break between Lawwell and the club, that’s not happening any time soon. His son Mark will now have a big say in first team matters. Let’s hope his years of experience with the City group have prepared him well for the role.
