Olympique de Marseille have accepted they were second best in Ligue 1 this season. PSG got handed the title during the week based on current league standings.

France was one of the worse hit countries with the Coronavirus and still to this day they have a major fight on their hands. With that in mind, the French authorities made the call on football and Marseille have congratulated the winners in all leagues on their website with the following statement.

Following the decision of the public authorities to stop sports competitions in France for health reasons, the LFP board of directors decided almost unanimously to end the 2019-2020 season. In accordance with the statutes of the League, the council also froze the final classification of the championship: Olympique de Marseille finished in 2nd place in Ligue 1 and therefore qualified for the Champions League. The club extends its congratulations to the champions of Ligue 1 and Ligue 2, PSG and Lorient.

Comparisons have been made to PSG’s and Celtic’s lead in their respective league tables. PSG held a 12 point lead with a game in hand in France. Meanwhile, Celtic had a 13 point lead having played a game more than their nearest “challengers”.
