Celtic boss Martin O’Neill has spoken about his relationship with the club’s board following questions around transfers in the build-up to the Europa League match against Bologna.
The discussion has gathered pace during a quiet January period at Celtic Park.
In recent weeks, attention has shifted beyond results on the pitch to how recruitment decisions are being handled. Injuries, registration rules, and the tight schedule have all increased scrutiny on the club’s approach in the transfer window.
Speculation around O’Neill’s influence and involvement has circulated as Celtic continue to work through January. Some reports have suggested disagreement behind the scenes, adding to the sense of noise around the club.
Ahead of the Bologna fixture, O’Neill was asked directly about those suggestions. He used the opportunity to set out his position before Celtic turned full focus toward the European test.
He said: (TNT Sports), “Of course, I’d like to have an input on what players are coming in.
“And there seems to be some sort of stories flying around here that I’m at loggerheads with the board. That is absolutely untrue.
“I’m not. They have been exceptionally helpful.”
The timing of the comments comes at a point when Celtic are balancing several demands. European fixtures and domestic priorities continue to test the squad and the wider structure around it.
O’Neill’s words point toward cooperation rather than division. He made clear that involvement in recruitment is part of the role, while dismissing claims of conflict.
Celtic have already moved in the window, adding Tomas Cvancara to the squad. Any further additions will depend on opportunity and fit rather than reaction.
Preparation for Bologna now takes priority. The match offers a chance to shape momentum at a critical point in the season.

For O’Neill, experience has shaped how he handles periods like this. He has been clear in his message and has drawn a line under the speculation.
O’Neill has addressed the questions, and the attention turns back to what happens on the pitch.
