Martin O’Neill, in his trademark dry style, entertained the Premier Sports panel over the weekend while offering his insights during Celtic’s Scottish Cup victory over Kilmarnock at Celtic Park.

The legendary former Celtic boss, now a pundit, didn’t miss the chance to make a cheeky remark about the current league situation as Brendan Rodgers’ side continues to dominate.

O’Neill’s comments came as the pundits discussed Rodgers’ decision to field what many considered his strongest starting XI. Some questioned whether the manager should have taken the opportunity to rest key players ahead of the crucial UEFA Champions League clash against Young Boys on Wednesday.

However, O’Neill cheekily turned the conversation to Rangers’ struggles, highlighting the vast gulf between Celtic and their rivals in the Premiership.

Speaking live on Premier Sports, O’Neill quipped: “If you are going to rest somebody, you might as well rest them during a league game where you are so far clear.” He added: “I mentioned earlier about being in contention, what am I talking about? It’s a runaway race. I think he (Rodgers) has gone very, very strong. He has a big game coming up on Wednesday. He will want to combine both.”

Funny but True from Martin O’Neill

While O’Neill’s wit drew a few laughs, his analysis wasn’t far off the mark. Rodgers has frequently rotated his squad in recent matches, with mixed results. The decision to go full-strength on Saturday paid off, as Celtic secured a win to progress to the next round of the Scottish Cup.

It was a welcome sight for fans to see O’Neill back at Paradise, and his presence only added to the occasion. With Celtic continuing to dominate domestically, the focus now turns to Wednesday night, when Rodgers’ men have the chance to make history, if they can beat Young Boys. Celtic could qualify for the knockout round of the Champions League for the first time in over a decade.

  1. Every baw pumped intae the Penalty area, has tae be pumped back oot. Every baw lost in every 50-50 in midfield could result in away team scoring.

No ‘tippy, tappy’ nor back passes to be played in Celtics end of pitch.

Close passing to be done, once Celtic are in control of game in opposition end of play.

Every player should be ready to defend, every player should be able to assist attack.

If in doubt, kick it out (unless!!!!!) your in the opposite penalty area.

Wing backs will be used beyond their own comfort zone, midfielders will track back if needed

The Martin O’NEILL way in Europe.
