Martin O’Neill has confirmed Celtic want to add more players before their Champions League play-off against LASK.
The Hoops face the Austrian champions at Celtic Park on 19 August before travelling for the second leg on 25 August.
After Monday night’s 1-0 win over Dundee, O’Neill made clear that he wants new arrivals in place before those games if possible.
Speaking after the match to TCW, he said: “I would like to do that.
“I would definitely like to do that. I think the most important thing of all is obviously getting the players in and getting them to work with each other. This is the point.”
However, O’Neill still believes more work is needed.
He added: “Kasper is getting to know the players’ names as much as anything else and getting players to play together.
“Even if it was only on the practice field. Just to get that mindset as much as anything else.”
The Celtic boss also said he already knows what areas of the squad need attention, regardless of the performance against Dundee.
“I think I have an idea, I should have an idea, I’m the manager,” he said.
“But I have an idea of what we need and it wouldn’t have made any difference to the performance or the result tonight. So I still know what we need.”
“I still think that we are,” he said when asked if Celtic were getting closer to more signings.
“I will speak to Michael tomorrow, tomorrow morning, see where we are.
“I just left, I spoke to him briefly today, but it was about just, let’s concentrate on the game tonight.
“Tomorrow is another day.”
Celtic opened the league season with three points, but the manager admitted the performance was short of where he wants it to be.
That makes the next two weeks especially busy, with domestic fixtures continuing and the LASK tie drawing closer.
O’Neill wants new players through the door before then, giving them time to train with the squad rather than arriving just before Celtic’s biggest games of the summer.
