Camilo Duran scored three goals in three games in pre-season as he led the line for the Hoops.
But when Celtic unfurled the flag against Dundee, he was moved out of the striker position and to the wing.
That’s because Celtic had broken their transfer record to sign the prolific Kasper Høgh, who had a great few seasons with Bodo/Glimt.
The Dane led the line but wasn’t able to get on the scoresheet, while Duran was on the wing.
The Colombian has grown into the position in recent weeks, showing his quality from out wide. He’s a proper workhorse, not too dissimilar to Maeda, but does have that added bit of quality to his game.
And he finally got his reward on Saturday evening in Tayside. He was on the scoresheet, scoring his first competitive goal in the Hoops.
It’s the least that he deserved after all his hard work over the past three games.
Post-match, manager Martin O’Neill was full of praise for the summer signing.
He told TCW:
“Well, I thought Camilo Duran was exceptional for us. I thought he was a really good player, or he is a good player, and yeah, he was terrific.”
There’s more to come from the striker, who has shown some nice trickery, pace and an eye for goal since arriving at Celtic. He’s got that typical South American style about him.
