Martin O’Neill has been relentless in pushing his former assistant manager Roy Keane for the Celtic job and that crusade continued on Monday night live on BBC Sportsound.

The former Celtic boss has been on Sky Sports recently as well pushing Roy Keane as his number one pick.

It might sound like just one man’s opinion but Martin O’Neill’s words hold importance to Dermot Desmond — the pair have a good relationship going back to before O’Neill came in to change the the club’s fortunes.

Speaking on Monday, O’Neill pushed Keane but also gave John Kennedy an outside chance of landing the role:

‘They may have three or four options of which they want to go down.

‘Next season is really big because it’s automatic qualification for the Champions League.

‘That’s a massive extra prize. It’s the £30 million. ‘Maybe it bolsters the argument that Celtic are taking their time – that whoever’s in there is able and capable of facing Rangers in the big contest.

‘Roy Keane’s got the personality, for a start. A massive player, iconic figure in the game. ‘He’s very strong willed. But he’s also got the capacity to motivate players. ‘Roy’s learned a great deal over the years

‘Dermot’s a strong-willed man himself. He’ll know what is necessary.

‘There is still the possibility of the Scottish Cup and let’s see how John Kennedy performs.

‘If Celtic go and clinch the Cup he must give himself a chance to do the job.’

Celtic fans are beginning to feel fatigued from constant speculation with no end in sight.

The club has been very secretive and all we’ve got so far is a contrived Q&A from Dermot Desmond.

Roy Keane has just been one name which has been bandied around.

Guys like Enzo Maresca, Eddie Howe and Steve Clarke have also been in the running.
