Martin O’Neill sent a not so subtle hint to his old pal Dermot Desmond on Sky Sports this afternoon. Assuming Desmond doesn’t use the Celtic Pass, he would have heard his former manager telling the audience at home he believes owners of any club are missing a trick by not employing Roy Keane as their manager.

He’s clearly sending a message to the Celtic board and Desmond when he said:

“Well, what you see is what you get from Roy.

“My own personal view is owners and chief executives are missing a trick by not thinking about him becoming a manager

“He has learned a great, great deal and I think is very, very capable of taking a top job.”

Martin O’Neill knows the Manchester Utd legend very well from their time together in the Ireland setup.

There’s no doubt he is a huge figure in football but he just doesn’t fit Celtic.

Considering we’re going for a sporting director role who will need to work with any manager coming in, could you imagine the friction when Keane doesn’t get what he wants?

There would be headline after headline. What you see is what you get but what I see is a man who played at a high level who simply cannot stand or handle players who can’t live up to his standards which then creates a problem between player and manager.

Being out of the managerial game for ten years after doing very little isn’t good enough.
