BRENDAN RODGERS has confirmed Leigh Griffiths has suffered a fresh injury blow which will see the striker out of action for around three more weeks.

At first it was just a niggling injury Leigh was rested for as a precaution but now the Scot will miss the next Champions League qualifier and probably the one beyond that IF Celtic manage to get through.

The Celtic manager also confirmed Hayes is around 2-3 weeks from being able to train again.

“Leigh, along with Jonny Hayes, is probably two or three weeks away. We’ll know more in a few weeks’ time.

“It’s really unfortunate for him but that’s how football works.

“For any player, when you miss a period of pre-season it’s always difficult, especially if you’ve worked hard.”

There was one piece of good news for Rodgers as Marvin Compper took part in full training yesterday morning and may earn a place on the bench for Alashkert coming to town on Wednesday.
