Jozo Simunovic has been sent home from international duty after the Bosnian medical team found the defender had a tear in his hamstring.

The defender who was left out of Celtic’s 2-2 draw with Hibernian at the weekend was due to get his first cap for Bosnia against Belgium but injury has curtailed that and could have big consequences for Celtic.

“Our manager, Mehmed Bazdarevic and I talked to Jozo’s doctor at Celtic and we got access to all the documentation on the injury’s condition.” said the bosnian coach

“The findings of the scan clearly shows he has a rupture of the hamstring and a hematoma four centimetres long.”

After the international break, Celtic have six fixtures in the space of 17 days, Jozo could be ruled out of some if not all of these games if the tear is serious.

Recovery time can vary from a couple of weeks to months.

Erik Sviatchenko is back in full training, he may have to be rushed back into the first team if Jozo is out.

  1. He is becoming a sicknote which is a pity as he is a quality player. This is why we should have bought another Central Defender as we knew after the Italians turned him down that he had injury issues.

  2. Absolute rubbish, it wasn’t that when he put Millar up in the air.
I would say , I am not too happy that a player, any player has to go on International duty and have an injury show up, we are supposed to be a Champions League club, and it looks like our medical department has let us down, not very professional.
