As Hoops fans scattered around the globe will know, the 2025/26 Scottish Premiership campaign has been a woeful one for Celtic and off pitch decisions have been even worse than our early European efforts.
As we head towards April though, legendary manager Martin O’Neill appears to have pulled a rabbit out of our hat twice with his double caretaker return this season, and despite all the nonsense we are on the cusp of adding yet another top flight title to our name and glorious history record. The run in so far has been perfect for those fans who use a vpn with dedicated ip for all their streaming needs as they have been able to enjoy the wins properly as O’Neill got us firing again.
O’Neill had not lost a beat when he replaced Brendan Rodgers initially at the end of October. His spell lasted eight games where he picked up seven wins to catapult us back up the table after some very disappointing performances and results but for reasons only known to the Board, we thanked him and appointed Wilfried Nancy.
Barely a month went by before our Board begged the 74 year old serial winning Northern Irishman to return to Parkhead after they had sacked their bizarre mistake. Although Monny was again playing catch up on top spot, an additional eleven wins and four draws so far in his second spell this year sees us go into Sunday afternoon’s early kick off clash with Dundee United at Tannadice Park knowing that victory in our game in hand will see us close the gap to Hearts to just two points.
The turnaround in form in his first spell was best described as remarkable, and he has gone one further at the second time of asking given how far we were off the pace when he returned. O’Neill achieving at Celtic is not a surprise to anyone given his illustrious history here but there will be few amongst the faithful (and the wider outside world of football) who would not think that lifting yet another title in these particular circumstances would make it the most poetic and sweetest one yet.
There is obviously work to do, and games to play with points to be won, before we hit that point though and that is exactly where the focus needs to remain for now with Dundee Utd on the horizon – but victory there would be a hell of a statement to make to others right now as the league campaign ebbs towards a close for another season.
Then, and only then, can fans allow themselves to truly start turning their eyes towards the campaign that is to come as there are obviously a number of outstanding questions to be addressed. What changes can we expect at Boardroom level and in the backroom team and that is before we get to who will be the new permanent manager of the club (Robbie Keane is still a media favourite), and then what business will we do when it comes to the make up of the first team squad and the futures of the loanees that we have with us.
It is going to be a big and important summer for us and whilst a strong end will be massive for our preparations, how we finish cannot change the decisions we take. Nancy was clearly a mistake and it almost cost us hugely. We cannot make two in a row.
