THE SPFL gets constantly undermined by a large portion of the English support who like to brag their product is just so much better because they pay their mediocre stars a king’s ransom.

This isn’t just limited to the Premier League teams – Championship and League One fans down south harp on about the standard of Scottish football compared to their league and how many of their sides and players could ‘walk’ the SPFL.

It’s just as much fantasy as believing your teams is better by default because of their bank balance.

Case in point – Martyn Waghorn.

This lad came up to Scotland and done well in the lower leagues – as soon as he hit the top table he folded like a cheap deck chair.

Here is Martyn trying to keep the ball in play at Hampden.

He only managed 8 goals in Scotland’s top flight with the rest of his goals coming in cup games wear the Ibrox club were up against lower league opposition.

This season his moves to Ipswich has seen him become one of the best players in the Championship – is he any different a player from the one who struggled up north?

Not a bit.

He has found his level – he can tear it up in the lower league of England and Scotland.

Don’t ask him to do too much against the ‘tinpot’ sides of the SPFL though.

What other players have failed to make the grade in Scotland?

  1. Not only a pish footballer but the hardest hero Glasgow has ever seen. Remember how brave and fearless he was, as he puffed out his chest and took on those school children. What a guy!
