Matt O’Riley has been named as the most valuable player in Scottish Premiership history by Transfermarkt.

The renowned football site recently updated its market values for Scotland’s top flight and gave Celtic star O’Riley a 20 million euro rating.

This now puts the 23-year-old ahead of the highest values the likes of Odsonne Edouard, Kieran Tierney, and Jota had at their peaks:

Off the back of a sensational season, there will be inevitable transfer interest in O’Riley this summer.

Across all competitions for Celtic in 2023/24, he scored 19 goals and assisted 18. He was key to the Hoops’ winning a double and took his game to another level under Brendan Rodgers.

The gaffer has got the best out of the Dane and will undoubtedly want to keep him this summer.

With teams such as Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid being previously mentioned as potential destinations for him, though, O’Riley staying in Glasgow for 2024/25 might be unlikely.

  1. Only worth what a club will pay in a transfer fee.
Regarding real value, players like any of the Lisbon lions, Dalglish, McGrain, Larsson etc etc were far more valuable as team players.
I can name a lot more but my typing is rubbish.
A true value is in what a player does for his team, not a fee to move on.
