Matt O’Riley and Moritz Jenz have known each other since they were teenagers but hadn’t seen each other since they left Fulham.

When Matt joined Celtic, he wasn’t aware that the club had considered making a move for Jenz in the previous window. However, after the club reignited their interest in the defender, the Celtic midfielder was straight on the phone with his friend.

The Danish under 21 international didn’t have to sell the club; Jenz was already keen to join the Hoops. Instead, the German defender was interested in the running of the club. Matt O’riley revealed to the Daily Record;

“When I signed in January, I wasn’t aware the club had looked at Moritz last summer. It wasn’t until we had a few calls before he came that I found that out. We spoke about a lot of things, and I explained the set-up and system, but he was keen to come and here he is.”

Jenz Off to a Flyer

The defender had a great debut, leaving many fans talking about his performance.  He was cool, calm and collected at the back, and scored a brilliant header at the other end. He looks to be a great player for Celtic, and if he keeps up his performance, he’ll likely see his buy clause triggered next summer.
