CALLUM MCGREGOR is top-class on and off the park, Celtic fans have known this for a long time. The manager made the player captain after Scott Brown departed the club last summer. With some supporters doubting him, he’s made them eat their words, as many players and backroom staff have done.

Matt O’Riley has opened up on arriving at the club, revealing CalMac was the first player that spoke to him and that he leads the team in a ‘great’ way.

Speaking to Celtic TV, the January signing said;

“He’s been great. I remember my first day he was the first one to come up and welcome me so that kind of says it says enough about his character in that sense.

“And yeah, just throughout my time he’s been really good and very important in terms of moments in games where you just need someone to step up. Before the game [he is] really trying to get everyone going.

“After the game he is always quite a calm head as well, never really singles anyone out. He’s very level-headed about it which is, I think, really important as a captain. He’s been great.”

O’Riley has settled into life at Celtic exceptionally well. So much so that he’s earned a call up to the Denmark under-21 side.

Being called up to the Danish under 21s shows that Matt is still young and has got a lot of development to do. He’s got enormous potential and is already claiming a starting role in Postecoglou’s Celtic side, with Tom Rogix dropping to the bench in Celtic’s most recent game.
