Former Celtic manager John Barnes believes that there isn’t an over reliance on any of the players in the current Celtic team with there being a strong collective in the group.

There has been many standout players which Ange Postecoglou has recruited since his arrival at the club last summer with Jota and Kyogo receiving a lot of attention.

Both players had very strong campaigns last season with them both chipping in a combined total of 33 goals as well as 20 assists.

So far, in the first two games of the season they have once again impressed with Jota and Kyogo having been both on the scoresheet as well as combining for a wonderfully worked opening goal on Saturday at Ross County.

It’s natural for supporters to gravitate towards both players but Liverpool legend Barnes firmly believes that Ange Postecoglou has built a squad that has goals all over the park that doesn’t have to rely on any individuals.

“I don’t think they are going to rely on any one player,” said John Barnes speaking to BonusCodeBets.

“Maybe in the past, they relied on a player to show his form, whereas now, even when players miss games, they still play in a way to confidently be better than other teams as much as they could drop points.

“But I think that they are really playing as a team rather than looking at an individual.”

Celtic have had two strong performances so far against Aberdeen and Ross County and will be looking for much the same when they travel to Rugby Park at the weekend.

Postecoglou has a lot of options to choose from with competition being very healthy in the squad which will be imperatively important as the games start to come thick and fast when the Champions League kicks off

  1. It was a terrible time in football when black players like Barnes and Gary Lineker were given dogs abuse when they played.
