Celtic captain Callum McGregor confirmed his return to action in Friday’s pre-match press conference, expressing excitement ahead of the League Cup semi-final against Aberdeen.
The midfielder has been sidelined with a knock, missing the recent fixtures against Motherwell and Dundee, but is back to full fitness and eager to make an impact at Hampden Park, a place he has been so successful in his football career.
“I’m all good. Ready to go,” McGregor assured fans via Celtic TV. “It’s been a quiet week this week, but I’m feeling good and ready to get back out there.”
The skipper admitted it’s been difficult watching from the sidelines, emphasising his eagerness to return: “Sitting out is not a feeling I’m used to. Sitting on the sidelines, kicking every ball, desperate to get back out there—but I’m good and ready to go.”
McGregor’s return will be a significant boost for Celtic as they prepare for what promises to be a challenging semi-final against an in-form Aberdeen side.
His presence in midfield brings leadership and stability, qualities Celtic will be relying on as they push for a place in the League Cup final.
Someone will have to drop out for McGregor to come back in. Naturally, you’d assume that it would be Bernardo, as he’s taken up the deeper role in the skipper’s absence.
Luke McCowan will also be looking to keep his spot in the the midfield, but Brendan Rodgers will need to decide whether or not he will, with Hatate also fighting for a start.
