Celtic captain Callum McGregor has insisted that Ange Postecoglou’s Hoops side need to be more ruthless in front of goal, to kill off games when they have the opportunity.

The Bhoys picked up another massive three points, with a 1-0 victory over Hearts, thanks to a goal from Kyogo in the first half.

However, it could have been a little more comfortable in the latter stages of the game had Celtic been more clinical and taken a few opportunities.

McGregor admitted he was happy with the performances but would also like to see the side be a bit more ruthless and put teams away.

“It was a good three points. The first half was really good with some great bits of football, good intensity – everything we were wanting to do – but we just couldn’t get the second goal to try and kill the game at that point,” he said, speaking to the club website.

“In the second half, the game becomes a wee bit basketball, but I thought that the boys dug in really well. It’s a really difficult month, and it’s a huge three points.

“Everybody could see how well we were playing, creating chances, but you just need that wee bit of ruthlessness just to put teams away when you’re on top in the game.

“You get the first one, and then if you get the second one, it probably kills the game at that point.

“But sometimes you need to grind it out a little bit, and I thought we did that in the second half.

“There are always periods in the game where the other team will have a bit of possession and maybe create one or two chances.

“And then, it’s just about trying to stay calm, stay organised and try to regain the ball again, and in the last 15 minutes, I thought we did that and created another couple of chances that we could have killed the game off at the other end.

“Overall, it was a good night, a really good three points, and we move on to the weekend.”

Of course, as supporters, we are delighted, no matter the result, with picking up another three points.

Those are the sort of games we need to fight and pull through to win in what will be a gruelling run of games for the squad in such a short space of time.

Ideally, that ruthlessness will come in the majority of games and make things a lot easier for Ange’s side in Decemeber. But the most important thing is always the three points.

  1. Banana skins allways a possibility if you cannot kill off the opposition especially when you’re well on top ? I reckon we.re around 20 goals short in spl goals tally , I.m trying to be positive but there will be games when we.re not so far ahead and appreciate every goal we can muster and that.s when the cushion of a better goal difference gives us that lift
