Callum McGregor has admitted that the Celtic squad are hungry for more success and are hopeful of booking their place in the final of Viaplay Cup next month.

The captain was amongst the group of players which brought unprecedented success to the club as they won a quadruple treble under Brendan Rodgers and Neil Lennon.

After that era was brought to a close, he was handed the captains armband by Ange Postecoglou to begin the next chapter at the club.

It didn’t take too long for McGregor to get his hands on silverware as captain as the club won the the first trophy on offer to them before going on to win the league during Postecoglou’s first season in charge.

McGregor came up against plenty of Derek McInnes’ teams while the Kilmarnock boss was in charge at Aberdeen but was in agreement after he admitted that this was possibly the best Celtic team he had came up against.

“It’s obviously nice when people speak well about the group, and I think up to this point he’s right,” said McGregor speaking to Celtic TV.

“We’ve been very easy on the eye, we’ve scored a lot of goals, defensively we’ve been good, we won two of the three trophies last season, so it’s a nice comparison.

“In terms of teams that I’ve played in, and I’ve played in some really good teams as well that have won a lot of trophies, there is a lot of comparison between the two.

“But I think the one thing that has remained constant is the hunger in the group to be successful.

“You can have good players, score a lot of goals, but you have to have a real desire to win, And when the big moments come, then you have to deliver in the big moments and I think that’s what separates the good teams from the great teams.

“If we have all those good habits and we have that hunger and desire to win, then hopefully when the big moments come around then we can be successful.”

After losing in extra-time on their last visit to Hampden, the Celtic team will know what they have to do to experience success at the national stadium once again.

The 2-0 victory at the weekend against Killie will have prepared the Hoops team well going into this match and on a different day, the scoreline could have been a lot more.

Having won a total of 16 major honours at the club so far, the Celtic captain will be hoping to add to that tally.
