Callum McGregor will hopefully train this morning before a final decision is made on his availability for Sunday’s Glasgow Derby, but the Celtic captain has made it clear—he’s willing to put himself through the pain barrier to lead his team into battle.

He’s missed training this week, and was doing individual work on Friday.

Not picked up by the cameras, concerns grew about the skipper’s availability, but he cleared up that there is still a chance that he makes the derby.

Speaking ahead of the showdown at Celtic Park, McGregor admitted it has been a difficult week, but he is determined to give himself every chance to play.

As quoted by RecordSport, he said:

“It’s one of those games you don’t want to miss so that is why we are giving it every chance and give it as long as you can to be ready to go out on the pitch.

“It’s been a tough week but I am trying to do everything I can to be available.

“I’ve said a million times that playing for Celtic is a huge honour, so you have to put yourself in a position that many supporters would do and play through the pain barrier and give yourself every chance to be involved in these games.

“The derby means so much to the club and means so much personally as well so you want to play in these games.”

With Paulo Bernardo already ruled out, having McGregor in midfield would be a huge boost for Celtic as they look to take another step towards the title.

Also missing out will be Liam Scales, Brendan Rodgers revealed that the Irishman could be needing some surgery on his cheekbone.

In better news, James Forrest was in training on Friday, as he looks to return to the Celtic squad, adding some experience and proven quality on the wings.

Brendan Rodgers will look to set his team up for a win on Sunday, and take another step closer to the league title.
