Reported Celtic target and World Cup Star Fabian Schar looks set for a medical with Newcastle before Friday according to reports down south.

The Deportivo La Coruna defender is looking for a way out of the relegated Spanish side and comes with a minimum fee release clause of just £3million due to the club dropping out La Liga.

It was reported several times during this window, Celtic had been looking at the player as an option should Boyata or Simunovic move on this summer – especially considering Fabian’s release clause was relatively low.

However, with Jozo staying and Boyata still here for the moment, Celtic are not yet in the market for a first team centre back until they have sit down talks with their Belgian defender.

Rafa Benitez and Newcastle have wasted little time in signing the player and hope to have the deal wrapped up by Friday where the Swiss defender will join their pre-season tour of Portugal.
