ANDY HALLIDAY has used Open Goal to plead his innocence and called people ‘mentalists’ who wanted him sent off for his reckless lunge on Celtic captain Callum McGregor.

During the game at Tynecastle, Halliday was nowhere near the ball when he lunged and stuck the boot into McGregor’s ankle.

Bobby Madden was right in front of the incident and refused to give any sort of booking for the tackle. Replays show the referee was in a great position and it’s unfathomable the player walked away without any sort of caution – a yellow was the least he deserved.

Halliday admits he should have got a yellow but believes nothing more.

“I’ve heard the rumours flying about. It sums up some of the mentalists these days.

“That’s not a red card.

“It’s a yellow card 100 per cent but it’s not a red card.

Halliday became a cult figure for Celtic fans when he played for the other side of Glasgow. Not everyone can say they had 60,000 supporters chanting their name as the home side wins the title 5-1.

Andy is still salty from those times and his appearances on Open Goal are enough for us to keep clear.

Celtic fell to a disappointing defeat on the first match day of the SPFL. The bhoys did legitimately go 2-1 in front but the goal was wrongly chopped off – another poor decision on the night from officials.

  1. Halliday is a wee thug from the back streets of Govan, He brings nothing to the game except late tackles or leg damage to the opposition.
Blatant RED every day of the week Halliday ya muppet.

    • Haliwanker is a coward and got bullied in govan he thinks he’s something now because he plays football he’s the biggest prick in govan.

  2. Par for the course with these unprofessional referee’s, Ive said it for long enough, how many will be at the world cup Zero How many will officiate at the European championships Zero How many will officiate at the later stages of the Champions league or the Europa Zero.

  3. Halliday total coward loves to dish it out but can’t take it back, remember his tackle on Roberts halfed him on centreline then moaned and tried to stop Broony celebrating at celtic park absolute waste of space

  4. Two of the biggest cliches in football, no malice intended or he doesn’t go on the pitch to hurt anyone. Considering the number of hammer throwers we have in Scotland seems to be prevalent among the Ibrox loving players. But comes to the fore when they play Celtic

  5. Think it’s about time neutral refs were brought in from the continent. Needs to be fairness and accountability. What was Bobby Madden thinking, that could have broken Calums ankle! No card, shocking. A lot has been said that the Celtic players weren’t surrounding the ref. Well good that’s the way it should be. Could well be Ange wants it that way or even Calum as captain wanting to deal with it. Don’t think it helps a cause all players shouting at the ref.
